Welcome!

Brief History of Sea Scouting
The Sea Scouts were established in the United States in 1912, two years after the Boy Scouts of America were incorporated following the form of the original British program.  The original concept of Sea Scouting was to prepare young men for service in the Navy.  In 1949, the name Sea Scouts was changed to Sea Explores to help attract older members and provide the opportunity for junior Sea Scouts to continue to participate.  In 2001, recognizing a need to reconnect with the Boy Scouts of America, the name Sea Scouts was restored.  Sea Scouts units are called “ships”, even though they might not actually meet and train aboard their own vessels.  There are active Sea Scout ships throughout the nation, though most are concentrated in metropolitan areas near the coastline.

Who is Sea Scout Ship 777?
We are a first class boating and outdoor co-ed program for young adults 14 ~ 20 years old.

Our Purpose
High adventure on sea and land.  Sea Scout Ship 777 provides an educational program while having a lot of fun along the way.  Sea Scouts is organized to promote better citizenship and to improve members’ skills and knowledge of our maritime heritage.  As a member of Sea Scout Ship 777, you will receive expert training in seamanship, navigation, safety, first aid, swimming, small and large boat handling, canoeing, water skiing, boat construction, maintenance and repairs.

Sailing and Cruising
We have several boats available for learning to sail and for use in cruising.  All members are taught safe and proper methods of handling boats.  Our Sea Scouts also learn the meaning of buoys and lights, how to take advantage of wind and tide and how to drop anchor or approach a dock.  Members learn to master operating different size sailboats and have the choice to compete in local, regional, national and international regattas, nautical events and competitions.

Maintenance and Repair
Every boat owner takes pride in the condition of their boat.  Our Ship vessels are no exception.  A good deal of time is spent on boat maintenance and methods.
